Politicians: Get out of the NRA's pocket

I can't wait for the first politician to say out loud that he or she will not take any more funding in any way from the NRA. Once that snowball starts Americans will see common sense change to the current laws that allow for people to buy guns but not beer, to buy bump stocks that turn semi automatic guns into weapons of slaughter, to allow someone on the no fly list to buy guns or to allow people to buy guns at gun shows with no background checks.

Once that first person says that they will no longer be in the pocket of the NRA, more will follow just like all of the businesses that are divorcing themselves from the NRA because it's no longer to financially advantageous to be associated with them.

When it is no longer acceptable to the American voters for their elected politicians to be in the pocket of the NRA real, effective change will happen.

Mass shootings of school chlldren in the US are no longer shocking, horrific or unbelievable, they're normal and that's shocking, horrific and unbelievable.

On a side note, Dick's Sporting Goods, one of the major gun retailers in the States, has just announced that, as of 2/28/18, they will no longer sell assault-style weapons or large capacity magazines, and that they will not sell a gun of any kind to persons under the age of 21.

I saw that on the news this morning. These companies will feel the pressure of their customers and their dollars. Thumbs up to Dicks!

When the first politician says "I will take no (or no more) money or receive any benefits from the NRA" the snowball will begin to roll. I predict that this will happen within a week. Politicians will be asked if they will be receiving any campaign money from the NRA. By the midterm elections they'll all be on record as a receiver or not a receiver of NRA funding. Change is coming, the electorate is demanding it. Finally. Individual states have and will pass their own gun laws regardless of federal law. #boycottnra

Delta Airlines' hub is in Atlanta and the Lieutenant Governor of Georgia (who is running for Governor) is pissed that Delta cut NRA benefits and threatened to cut tax breaks to the company. Governors of Virginia, New York and Washington quickly stated that Delta and their business would be more than welcome in their states.

What exactly is an "assault-style" weapon and why should the sale of them be limited?

By Erector [Ignore] at 10,Mar,18 00:35
Yes, we should make it it ill egal to shoot people. That'll stop them.

There is a solution to the mass shootings. A couple of countries, including Australia, have done it. Remove the access to weapons, unless you have a demonstrated need for them. Simple really, and proven to work.

I think you need to reread my blog story in order to understand what I said or more importantly, what I didn't say. These mass murders are being committed by Americans and weather they are democrats or republicans is irreverent.
Weather they are or are not NRA members is also irrelevant.
There are gun laws in the United States that need to be changed and the legislators are unwilling to take even baby steps because the NRA is donating to their campaigns thereby lobbying them to make political decisions based on the opinions of the NRA, not the electorate.

Haha. Somebody posted something that "required more thought" and while I was writing the above post in response to it they deleted their post.
