Of course there is risk of STDs, but is the risk any greater than a quick hook-up for a one night stand? Perhaps slightly, but not much.

As I've said several times here on this site, when I was young and single I was wild and promiscuous, having had sex with two or three thousand different men and three women. Yes, I picked up STDs a few times, but one could count the number on the fingers of one hand. Each time it was treated and I got over it. When one considers the huge amount of sex I had, the risk wasn't all that high.

The bottom line is that ALL SEX, perhaps with the exception of solo masturbation, carries some risk. Each man (and woman) will have to weigh the risk/reward and decide how much risk he or she is comfortable with.
