Is it possible to create a way to mark individuals as "do not contact" without putting them on a ban list?

TO ADMIN:

There are several people I have attempted to chat with who either never respond or have been gracious enough to tell me they don't want to chat with me for one reason or another. I don't want to put them on a Ban list but I would like to have a way to mark these individuals locally, in my browser window, as do not contact so I don't mistakenly keep bothering them. If you can set something like this up it would be very useful. Thanks for considering the problem.

This is a very old post, BushPilot,so you probably already know the answer to the question. However, in case other members don't know:

When you visit another member's profile, there is a blue [notes] link up at the top in their personal info section. Click on that, and it takes you to a page where you can make notes regarding that member. Write "do not contact" and when you visit that page you can remind yourself not to contact them.

I think this would be a nice feature improvement.

Here's what I do in the meantime...
I will "click" on the relevant member's name and select to send them a PM. Before I actually compose anything, I review any past discussion.

You can also probably start a personal log (*.txt or *.doc or whatever) file and keep track of the various members with some pertinent short notes in there and then save it to your computer, or wherever.

Good ideas. I keep a log of my contacts for just that reason and that way I don't loose the data after 90 days. The problem is that I don't want to have to keep a file open on my desktop of "do not contacts". If there were some way to simply click on a button and the contact turned red whenever it appeared on my screen, it would make it easy to see which ones to avoid. I hate the idea of Banning anyone. It seems a bit too harsh (terminologically speaking) and I don't see any reason the individual needs to know you don't want to contact them or screen their contacts. It isn't about hurting anyone's feeling, just about keep myself from bothering anyone who doesn't want to be contacted by me.

You might want to use Google drive. I enter friends name and what they like and URL. You can make one with do not contact names

Thanks for stating the obvious Mrcockman. While I agree, it would be nice to have a way to ensure you don't forget in the heat of the moment and send a message only to remember at the last minute that, oops, this is a person who doesn't want to chat with you. It only makes them resent you more. At least that's my opinion.
