The Healey belong to a long ago boyfriend. I remember (I think) when you got to fourth you had to switch the overdrive on and drop to the 3rd slot to get 5th and 4th became 6th. My friend was not mechanically inclined, so I helped him overhaul it. Knock off wheels, 12 volt system made of two 6 volt batteries. One under each seat. Straight 6 engine with 3 side draft carburetors. Lucas electrics. Convertable. It was not a chick magnet. He traded it in for a GTO. That was a chick magnet. Nothing gets a girls legs spread like big V8 American muscle.

Knockoff wheels were cool. Fun to change. That car never went far enough to worry about tire balance or roundness. I ask someone in england once why they had crappy cars. He said it was because it was an island, there was no place to go and the roads were terrible. The purpose of a british car was to make a low speed drive once a week, then to be worked on all week. The healey was perfect for this.

I think that the reason it was sold was that when we put it back together we never got those carbs working correctly. I don't understand side drafts. The GTO has an enormous 3 barrel. And a real thirst for gas.

It was VERY attractive to women though.

I don't think we had the healey running long enough to know what kind of mileage it got. British cars were not particularly comfortable. Women of the time were not impressed.

When he got the GTO, he was my collage roommate and could pick up more women than he could fuck so I got to share in the overflow. He would find women and invite them to parties in our apartment.

I met one woman who owned a porsche, and she let me drive it, and her. The car was much more fun than she was.

It is a fleet of things I have driven over the years and still have. I have a 1980 Suzuki 750 motor bike, but I think it is going away. I have a 1987 Jeep wrangler, this is the serious off road vehicle and work horse. I have a 1990 VW vanagon syncro. 4 wheel drive for when you need to get remote and have a comfortable fucking bed. And for actually driving a 2020 Jeep Compass. That is the standard SUV type thing, 4WD, skid plates, off road capable.

The wrangler is good for anything on public land that is a road or was a road, or could be a road. There are old logging road all over the place so almost everything could be a road. On my or private land that I have access to, I drive it everywhere. I use it to pull dead trees out to be cut into firewood. It spends most of its life in 4WD. Except for the occasional trip to town with the little trailer, or to get gas.
