In one of our southern states there was this abandoned campground. It was mainly all forest with walking trails throughout , some buildings like a community center and a dormitory style building. It was located several miles from the little town and no prying neighbors neighbors nearby. It was leased by an organization called the Bobcat Club which was a gay nudist club. It seemed like the ideal place where one could come, bring a friend, shed your clothes and go and observe nature. Like I said it was miles from town no neighbors, a privacy fence was built along what road frontage to shield members from prying eyes. No one would even know what was inside the fence. You know if people want to get away from a 9 to 5 job for a weekend of fun and relaxation they should be able to do it especially in a facility like this and if they want to run through the forest naked and put up with the biting insects and thorny bushes, that should be their privilege. But no. When some of the community learned of the existence of such a place they went ballistic. You would think the Russians had taken over or we had been invaded by creatures from outer space. They formed committees, they wrote letters to weekly newspaper despite how it was going to ruin the morals of our children and how it would destroy our community. And all the members of the club wanted was to relax and enjoy themselves and get away from the everyday rat race. These same people that were so hellbent on running the Bobcat Club out were the same ones that were in church on Sunday but found them in a bar on Saturday night sitting in a dark corner where they wouldn’t be seen, probably with someone else’s wife and getting plastered. Well they finally succeeded. The Bobcat Club had to fold their tents and move out. Now the property sits vacant. No one to pay the taxes on the land , no members spending money in the stores. Now do you think these instigators that caused this Club to leave thought about the lose of tax money the county desperately needed or the loss of revenue in the various stores that helped keep the economy going? Not for a minute. They thought of themselves as Knights in Shining Armor, saviors of humanity and this is what we have to put up with .
