I have a friend who's an evolutionary biologist. She studies ancient dna and she recently managed to sequence the dna of ancient mammals found in Asia. She confirmed that the most common recent ancestor between humans and cats is about 100 million years ago. That's about 10-20 times more than the emergence of the first humanoids. I had my dna sequenced and found that I have a high percentage (high compared to the average) of neanderthal genes. That's really exciting.

The fraction of the neanderthal genome present in europians is about 1 to 2 % on the average. I have about 4%. Which is high.

Africans have almost negligible neantherthal genes because nenaderthals arrived in Europe half a million years ago (roughly) and evolved there: lots of mutations too. Whereas africans who remained in africa evolved rather independently. Of course, over half a million years, there must have been africans who went to europe and back. Certainly, interbreeding between africans and europeans who inherited neanderthal genes has gifted some of these genes to africans, but not more than 0.3%. As for australian aborigines they have none of the neanderthal genome.

That's not correct. My friend has recently discovered Neanderthal items stemming from the late Middle Paleolithic or pre-Aurignacian that disprove this myth. The belief is due to acculturation and was formed at least a century ago when data and findings were meagre. Nowadays, scientists have compared ornamental and utilitarian findings that reveal complex cognitive processes. Neanderthals aren't really a different species, they belong to the same genus as us, the difference being that they arrived in Europe from Africa some 450 thousand years before Homo Sapiens (50 thousand years). They evolved slightly differently, in response to the harsh ice age conditions (a mile thick ice over land), and it's thanks to them and the interbreeding that too place for 10s of thousands of years, that we've adopted some of those genes.
