What are your proposals for Elon Musk, to make Twitter that free public square of ideas, that most people hope he turns Twitter into. Do you think it will be possible to have Twitter exist without any rules on what you are allowed to say or post on it? Do you think some rules are 'common sense'? How does the law apply to it? And should it be free (financially) or would Twitter also allow 'free speech', if Elon introduces subscriptions, requiring payment on a monthly basis, for features that used to be free?

There are always rules. No shouting fire in a movie theater for example. Even right wing rags don't allow complete lies. Musk will find that if there are no rules and no limits then there will be no companies supporting them. Musk wants to make money.

But I predict that twitter will just go broke and go away. Not that I care one way or another.
By leopoldij [Ignore] 26,Nov,22 19:42 other posts
Of course Musk wants to make money. What else would he want?
Actually, I couldn't care less if twitter, Facebook, etc, all that crap, would go away. The world would be better.

What is wrong with making money?
By nekekal [Ignore] 27,Nov,22 01:38 other posts
Nothing wrong with making money. But you are not allowed to rob banks. Musk is very good at making money. I don't think he knows squat about running a social media company.
By phart [Ignore] 27,Nov,22 09:12 other posts
If you ever watch some of the videos regarding musk youtube,he has said he does not need to know everything ,he can hire people that do know what needs to be done.

think about that for a minute, you may know your job well, but when the transmission goes out in your car,you hire a man that knows transmissions.
Ok, for Musk, he may not know how a social media company ticks but he can spot inefficiency's ,like the free lunch bullshit for twitter employees, and eliminate them right off the bat .Once he gets the company trimmed down with less wasted money, he can use the savings to hire someone to tweek it.
By nekekal [Ignore] 27,Nov,22 13:54 other posts
True. I have tried fixing transmissions and they are difficult.

But anybody running a company sets the vision. They can hire people execute the vision, but need to know and express the idea about what they want. It isn't clear that musk has any idea about what he is doing. He paid way too much money for a company loosing as much money as twitter is. Eliminating free lunches isn't going to save it and will drive some employees away.

Alienating commercial subscribers will not help either. I am not a known stockholder.
By phart [Ignore] 27,Nov,22 14:07 other posts
ditto on the transmissions!

Really just to back up to the start of it, I don't know why Elon wanted it to start with?
He has demonstrated time and time again he can start a new company and make it work. Why buy twitter when he could have started Quacker or Oinker and put the little blue bird out in the woods the fun way.

I never saw the appeal myself. I don't have that much to say and facebook,i call it butt book because everyone shows their "ass" on there and some get put in facebook jail or something for just saying something that offended someone. No need for it.

Just to keep you from replying to yourself, do the fucking libturds have any 'common sense'???
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 03,Nov,22 07:33 other posts
In general, liberals have something extra over what you call 'common sense'.
Most liberals have higher education than most right-wingers.
Most liberals have critical reasoning skills and knowledge pertaining reality.
Most liberals have at least some interest in science and the truth, other than what they get fed by their corporate media, while you just consume their biassed lies.
Some have actual scientific knowledge and skills, making that 'common sense' of yours absolutely, laughably, childishly inferior. True common sense requires a trained brain.
Your brain is not even capable of seeing patterns in facts, which is necessary for the ability to perceive, understand, and judge in a manner that is shared by most people. Basically, you don't even have 'common sense'.
By tecsan [Ignore] 08,Nov,22 02:36 other posts
More education, if it is free then why not?
Critical reasoning, that is BS. I guess if you call woke crap critical reasoning.
Liberals interested in science is also BS. They are interested in fiction.
Some have...really. Now that was laughable. Dementia and a cackler. Trained brain is something the libturds do not have, guess we have mega trained brains or ultra trained brains. So you as a socialist do not have a brain to train.
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 08,Nov,22 17:04 other posts
"Critical reasoning is the ability to reason through sets of propositions, rules, conditions, statements and premises to arrive at a true or valid conclusion. It requires the ability to apply logical concepts such as inference, causality, contradiction and consistency." "Critical reasoning involves the ability to actively and skillfully conceptualize, analyze, question and evaluate ideas and beliefs."
"Critical thinking is the analysis of available facts, evidence, observations, and arguments to form a judgement."

If you think that is BS, than please explain how people can separate facts from fiction. Just by choosing to listen to people who tell you things that you like to hear? Then why do you like hearing these things?
By phart [Ignore] 08,Nov,22 17:26 other posts
Well gee, with that method of thinking, this is simple.
I studied the price of gas during Trump, and I priced gas under biden and it is higher.
I could buy alot more grocery's under Trump than I can under biden. So that means something during bidens rule is prompting a issue. Prices consistently higher, contradictions from washington as to why and etc
and etc.
Critical thinking, never knew using common sense and personal experiences and observations to come up with a logical answer had a name,
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 12,Nov,22 09:53 other posts
That's not causality, that's just a 'Cum hoc ergo propter hoc' fallacy. Google it.
Show a connection between what Biden did and how that resulted in inflation.

Trump pumped 4.5 trillion in the stock market and massively increased your debt.
A stock market based on inflated air instead of true value can cause inflation.
At least I can show some correlation between Trump and inflation.
My correlation is 4.5 trillion big. What is your Biden correlation?

Logic requires cause and effect. You fail to show cause and effect.

I'd like to see what happens when musk gets called a geeky wanker!!! or what happens when people really find out how Tesla makes money and how musk plays both sides off against each other, cuz republicans and democrats love a billionaire!!!
Cuz the only thing that matters to Americans,is the dollars in their pockets!!!
Gotta give props to the Twitter board for filing their case against musk in Delaware!!! those that were sacked when musk took control got a fat payoutyet the the actual workers are going to get fucked!!
I wonder how much Saudi money is invested too!!

As for the actual site itself,I don't use it, can't have a conversation when you are limited to how many characters you can use!!
It's just full of people who have too much time on their hands!!
Social media in general has fucked people up!!
It just echo chambers..

I see this Twitter buy just as a vanity project from Elon Musk.
But maybe he thinks he can open a new market for his cars,
when he succeeds in giving conservatives their platform.
Maybe it's even worth the money for him, if Twitter goes dodo.
I've never seen any love for 'free speech' in Elon Musk before.

Twitter was already a cesspool, but it promises to be even worse.
Still, I think that free marketplace of ideas is important.
But how can Elon create that, without it becoming even more of a cesspool
and an echo chamber. He's off to a rocky start.

My own idea on this subject, which I posted in another topic:

I'm neutral about Elon Musk. I like that he made EV's cool and pulled innovation on that front. His boring company has potential to help alleviate congestion in cities. I'm neutral about SpaceX. And I do think he's going into Twitter with maybe the right intentions, but
he has a whole lot of stupid ideas about it and is making a big mess of it, at this time.

If you want to have the free public square of ideas, you don't want it privately owned by a billionaire. It should be a public service and it's shouldn't be controlled by algorithms who are designed to pull people to the furthest extremes of ideas they once showed any interest in. That's not a public square, that's a rabbit hole. It should be designed to challenge people's beliefs and make people think. And there should also be some moderation, to make sure people are not threatening, doxing or scamming each other
or posting illegal content from child molesters.

Having that publicly owned free public square of ideas is probably not realistic,
so if Elon Musk turns Twitter close to something like my ideal, I would be pleased
and I might even join Twitter. However with his current ideas, I would have left,
if I was on Twitter.

So I started this topic, to discuss what Elon should do, to make Twitter great.
