OUR FLORIDA GOVERNOR

What is most unsettling about DeSantis, his administration and our current legislature is the absence of empathy for those who are underserved, underrepresented, and misunderstood.
By phart [Ignore] 19,May,22 11:35 other posts
There has been a absence of empathy for those that work for a living and front the money that keeps America going for far to long.
It is time for those that feel underserved, and etc to figure out WHY they are in that position then do something for THEMSELVES to fix it.
The age of playing victim needs to pass.

Joe Rogan made an ass of himself again. He was telling about the tyrannical government of Australia, that is trying to pass a bill that would outlaw them to grow their own food.

He read something briefly and wanted to get into the article.
He was fact checked live. There was nothing to it except some tweets.
He said "damn it's fake!".......... Yeah, obviously!
Check something before you speak to 11 million listeners. Lazy mofo.

I believe that Joe Rogan doesn't want to spread misinformation on purpose.
He's just another dupe, like the right-wingers here, going to the most idiotic sources
and then believe that shit.

Sam Seder checked it and it originated from a website filled with disinformation.
Here's other sources, because I also check something before I say it:

The writer is closely affiliated with a preacher who spreads the idea that slavery
wasn't real, because they calculated it and it wasn't economically feasible.
If those are your sources, your head is filled with propaganda scar tissue.

[For people who think there is something about that slavery thing; there are records of every slave traded in our National Archives (https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/en/research). The side of The Golden Coach, a coach owned and used by the Dutch royal family, depicts a scene with slavery, because the Dutch were proud of that 'mercantilism',
at the time the coach was built.]

"I just wonder where the descendants of slaves would be today had slavery never happened?"

In Africa?

I know this argument; "descendants of slaves should be lucky to live here."
Maybe, but their ancestors lived and died under horrible circumstances for centuries.
For them, it's just as hollow as the promise of heaven.
By #610414 18,May,22 09:34
The better question is “Would the descendants of slaves” be happier if slavery hadn’t happened? I do. Blacks in this country are relegated to second or third class citizens. In their ancestral countries they might have experienced other tribulations, but, they would have been equally treated and have more dignity.
We, as a country, are very racist. I doubt we’ll be able to change that.
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 18,May,22 13:23 other posts
All those people from Africa could have been just accepted as immigrants, to do work for low wages, like the US did with many other nationalities. Maybe they would be doing exactly the same today as they are now, maybe better.

There would be one difference; all the immigrants of that time have a history.
They still have their culture, like holidays and food from whence they came.
Do black people still have a culture form the parts of Africa they came from?
No, they don't have that, because their culture was forbidden, it was beaten out
by their white masters. All they have is slave culture, like Soul food. "The cuisine originated with the foods that were given to enslaved black people by their white owners." That was basically GARBAGE! They did their best to make leftovers and
the cheapest crap, eatable. It is all they have. Should they be thankful for that?

Better ban jet airplanes ,they kill people.
The planes might just nose dive all by themselves.

similar to how guns leave cabinets and safes and go kill all on their own.

By #610414 18,May,22 09:41
This post by you, Phart, shows why the people of this country are so fucked up that they can’t see, heck, they can’t even entertain, the possibility of an idea to control the MURDERS committed by the use of a gun. Sadly, the gun gets more love ❤️ than a life. Then, the same fucked up people tell you an abortion is murder. Get real.
By phart [Ignore] 18,May,22 11:56 other posts
No this is a prime example of a person wanting to kill innocent people using a AIRPLANE instead of a gun.
No the gun in my case ,does not get more love than a life.
It is when someone proves they don't value life that threatens me,that I value their life less than my own.
So I guess this suicide jet pilot just provided a 100+ late term abortions?

that's a simple problem to solve, make DISNEY pay the back taxes and the debt they created. What the hell makes a amusement park worthy of tax exemption??
By #610414 08,May,22 14:04
Disney does not owe any taxes and the taxes they do collect are used to fix the infrastructure in the property. Fire, police, hospital, roads, environmental management, water management, they get no help from the two counties they are located on or the state. Why do you think the people of those counties are upset? They enjoy the benefits the park brings to the region without having to pay taxes for that. It’s estimated that when Disney stops being independent every taxpayer in those two counties will have their taxes increase by several thousand dollars.
Phart, someone fed you a load of garbage. Don’t take my word for it. Research it in the real internet.
One last word, if the state government is willing to make your business an autonomous entity and you accept, that’s on the state. Also, calling Disney an amusement park is like calling a cruise ship a row boat. I gather you’ve never been to Disney.
By phart [Ignore] 08,May,22 19:11 other posts
Uh,just what else could it be? rides and such? cartoon fiqures and such.
Sheesh.
Why would the taxes increase? Were the people living for free off the amusement park?
County water, county sewer etc, that type infastructure is supported by the entire county, not just a company and it's assets.
The only taxes that should be going up is what Disney pays, the rest of the people should have already been paying their fair share based on property values and such.
By #610414 08,May,22 20:15
Phart, Disney has a whole town where families live. They have hotels, restaurants, theaters, camping areas, and miles and miles of roads. They provide their own water and have several sewer plants. You don’t know what you are talking about.
--------------------------------------- added after 4 minutes

Disney World is what it looks like if you give a corporation full control over an area of land as big as San Francisco. It's worked out great for the company, which counts on the park for 14% of its $2 billion yearly earnings. And it's been a boon for Florida as well--the park turned Central Florida into an economic powerhouse and tourism destination. It's also a huge source of employment for people living in the area, with 62,000 employees at the park alone.

Does that sound like just an amusement park?
By phart [Ignore] 08,May,22 22:28 other posts

and this is only part of the whole Disney setup. Do you really believe that if it was just an amusement park people would continue to visit every chance they get? Disney is not just an amusement park. It’s a vacation destination like Sandals, Cancun, or Las Vegas.

I’m not familiar with Amazon tax exemptions, but businesses have them
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 09,May,22 06:47 other posts
It was an answer to phart's question "What the hell makes a amusement park worthy of tax exemption??"

I don't think any private business is worthy of tax exemptions.
Maybe if they spend huge amounts of their profits on solving the world's problems,
I would lower their taxes on that specific amount, but there's not a lot of companies doing that, in my opinion. So they should just pay the same rate as any small company, or they'll be unfair competition.

Right-wingers are just angry now at Disney for being 'woke',
while they used to say corporations are people and have free speech.
By #610414 09,May,22 08:35
Ananas, before Disney, Orlando, Florida was a convenient gas stop for truckers going from I95 in Daytona to Tampa on the I4 road. Now, that area is a commercial power house that bring BILLIONS of tax dollars to Florida.
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 09,May,22 10:12 other posts
And that wouldn't have happened if Disney hadn't benefited from tax exemptions?
Maybe Florida gave Disney the best deals to build Disney World there and without those deals Disney World would have been built somewhere else. It's possible that Florida benefited from that, but in the end that race to the bottom between states in taxes only deprives the taxpayer as a whole.

Without that taxes competition between states, businesses like Disney World would just choose to settle in an area where the land is cheapest or where labor is cheapest. That coincides with areas that need that business the most.
States that can afford to give huge tax exemptions might not be the states who need that business the most.
By #610414 09,May,22 10:22
Its turns out that Walt Disney created multiple fake companies (like M.T. Lott Real Estate) to buy Florida land in the 1960s. This let him acquire what is now Disney World while avoiding suspicion and keeping prices low. The stores on Main Street shop windows are the names of those original companies. Not only that but Disney used to constantly deny that he was ever in the area.
--------------------------------------- added after 3 minutes

That area was low land and mostly swamps. Once he had the land he was able to go to the state and bargain for self government. If they turned him down, he could resell the land go somewhere else. The state made a good deal.
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 09,May,22 12:59 other posts
OK, it was probably expensive turning swampland into an amusement-park. I do see how the state would help unlock otherwise useless land for commercial use, that could return economic growth and tax revenue.

NOW The truth comes out.
The fucking citizens have been getting a free ride for 55 years and now they are scared they might have to pay property taxes LIKE EVERYONE ELSE does to maintian infastructure.Boo fucking hoo.

The lawsuit filed last week by Florida taxpayers against the decision by GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis to pass a law revoking Disney's private government was dismissed by a federal judge, WESH 2 News reported.

The lawsuit accused DeSantis and other state officials of violating the constitutional rights of taxpayers, as well as the first amendment rights of Disney, by pushing through legislation designed only to punish the company after its CEO opposed the state's Parental Rights in Education law that prohibits instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, which critics say marginalizes LGBTQ+ people.

U.S. District Court Judge Cecilia Altonaga wrote that the suit was dismissed due to the federal court's lack of standing over state issues and because the law does not go into effect until July 2023, according to the Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The litigants were worried that, due to the law, local taxpayers will now have to pay for a multitude of services, such as road maintenance and a fire department, that Disney has paid for the past 55 years, Deadline reported.
By #610414 11,May,22 14:15
Now you know the truth. Disney is good for Florida CITIZENS and the state, both. DeSantis is an ass

Have it your way. Those “bums” paid taxes all along. You missed the point. Now their taxes will double or triple.
--------------------------------------- added after 9 minutes

Another thing. Taxes in many areas of Florida are way more expensive than other states. The only thing we don’t tax is income, but, property taxes are one of the highest in the nation.

My property taxes are $4750/Year and my house insurance is $6200. You really think “snowbirds” move to Florida for the taxes? They move here because the weather averages 70 degrees year round, and even though homes are priced sky high, when they sell their home up north, they can pay cash for one in Florida or put a big downpayment and invest the left over

the house insurance here is 1200 a year. But it does not cover flood . But we are almost the highest point in the community. Although a flood plain is about 1500 feet away from us,it would have to rain 40 days and nights to get this far up.
By #610414 17,May,22 13:28
A few years back, FedNat Insurance Company was one of the largest carriers in the state. Last year, they reported more than $103 million in net losses. Last month, they were downgraded by the rating agency Demotech.

FedNat is now dropping 68,200 policies to stay afloat, desperate to reduce their exposure in Florida. Florida’s Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier signed a consent order on Friday allowing FedNat to drop the policies.
OMG, your house insurance is $6200? I pay €44.86 per month
and it includes the building, the household and liability insurance.

But it also doesn't include flood, which is pretty risky in some parts
of The Netherlands. It's not even possible to get flood insurance.

In property taxes I pay $300 per year, for a house worth about 3 grand
or probably around $375,000 if I sold it today.
But with all taxes included for sewage, waste and water management,
I pay around $1440 per year.

The waste taxes are the most expensive, because around 80% of all waste is recycled. We have 3 bins for paper, plastic/metals/drink-cartons and 'green'waste. What is left goes in the bin down the street.
Water management taxes are also not cheap. Those are the expenses of the provinces to keep us from flooding and drowning, because most of us live below sea level. I'm lucky, I live exactly at sea level.
By #610414 13,May,22 07:37
Insurance in the state of Florida is so screwed up, the governor called for a special session to see what can be done. Our roof is older than 15 years. It’s been inspected and found good but, no insurance company will insure it. The mortgage co. requires we have insurance. If we can’t get it privately, they force us into a high price specialty insurance that costs more than twice normal insurance. A good majority of Florida home owners are in this fix.
--------------------------------------- added after 2 minutes

Taxes are levied by the county where the property is located. Miami-Dade county is one of the most expensive counties.
--------------------------------------- added after 8 minutes

One of the rules for taxing property is the starting point is the initial price you buy your home for. Then they add a whole bunch of taxes for specialty items. The county gets a big chunk. The state gets its share and the city gets its share.
By Ananas2xLekker [Ignore] 17,May,22 14:42 other posts
I thought that Florida was a right-wing freedom state, with low taxes.
It sounds like you actually pay a lot, compared to my so called 'socialist paradise', which is supposed to tax me to death.

Especially if you add up all those insurances, that's crazy.
My health insurance is the most I pay: $385/month total for both of us. Then we have $35 total/month life insurance, $47/month car insurance and with what I previously noted, that's all. And my area is also the most expensive in my country.

Income taxes must be higher for us, but if you add up all the taxes, insurances and other monthly costs for living, I think we come out cheaper, below the line.
By #610414 17,May,22 16:38
Sales tax is 7.5%. Car insurance for three cars is $1940/yr. We are both on Social Security and Medicare. We pay $140 each/ month for Medicare Advantage Health plans. There’s also a good chunk of state taxes for gasoline and we use aprox. $20/month in road tolls. Not cheap.
Wow, this is interesting:
phart is defending a lefty position
CAT is defending the corporate position

What a wealthy corporation can do, when they reluctantly say something
that most of their employees and customers want to hear.

But now Disney is angry with DeSantis, because they pay him and his friends to do their bidding and now he's 'screwing' them.
By #610414 13,May,22 08:00
The results are the same but the progression is wrong. The first salvo was by DeSantis. He pushed a law through the state legislature called Don’t Say Gay in schools. Disney’s CEO criticized the governor for this (second salvo). DeSantis, being a petulant little boy a la Trump, immediately pushed legislation through the state legislature to strip Disney of its self governing status. It was a classic case of “I’m mad at you so I’m taking my toys and going home”. It was all done in a rush (typical for this asshole governor) without regards to what the ramifications would mean for the people of those 2 counties and the surrounding areas.

Eliminate guns and a huge facilitating tool will be out of the equation. Will it stop all killing? Hardly, but, it’s much easier to defend against a knife, club, or????????.
To all you 2nd amendment supporters, 1st- you don’t have a clue what the amendment is all about. 2nd- this amendment was good in colonial times, now, it’s a disgrace in the government of our Republic and a disbelief in other countries. 3rd- it’s an amendment and like any other, it can be revised or eliminated.

By phart [Ignore] 17,May,22 10:04 other posts
no I am advocating that citizens not be denied the right to protect themselves from a tyrannic government. in which the cops work for.
In the florida case of the murdered ups driver and the poor fellow just trying to get home from work, the cops who's bullets killed them should be in jail. that is what I mean by holding them accountable.
Some videos verify that the cops literally used citizens cars for protection from the bullets of the robbers. putting the citizens directly in harms way. Am I the only 1 that remembers some police cars having the slogan "to serve and protect" on the side? Seems that sentence means adding "ourselves" to the line.
and you could never eliminate the guns from the cops. they would be slaughtered by every outlaw in the land as only the outlaws would have guns.
BUT you can remain in a position to protect yourself from a tyrannic government. That is 1 of the reasons for the 2d admen.
