Wow,Look what Desantis has done for education in his state.Parents can choose the school for their kids!

"At the end of the day, we believe that the money should follow the student, and it should be directed based on what the parent thinks is the most appropriate education program for their child,"
WoW! NOW THAT is freedom of choice as a parent!
By #610414 28,Mar,23 16:30
Sure. What happens when my tax dollars go to a Christian school instead of public education?
By phart [Ignore] 28,Mar,23 17:31 other posts
The parents are able to send the kid to a school of their choice, instead of where the government wants to bus them.
Parents now have a choice.
Would you not have wanted more choices of education and such for your children? Did you not want what was best for them?
If you thought public school was the best choice, you would have the option to send them there. If you did NOT feel like public school was a good choice for your own children, you can now send them where you do feel like is best.
Anyone against choices for parents must not have ever been a kid and exposed to the bulling and hatred that is among the kids there.
By #610414 28,Mar,23 18:37
You confuse neglect of certain public school properties with poor teaching. I am a big believer in public schools. When my two oldest were in elementary I had the chance to send them to a very exclusive Catholic school. I say chance because we had to be approved by the board and show the ability to pay the cost. We sent them for two yrs. In that time the BS caused more problems than the worth of their learning. We put them back in public school. If parents want to send their kids to private school, I think that’s great, but not on my tax dollars.

I doubt very many people hate the idea of sex. They just don't like the way some people go about getting it, lying to people, getting people drunk, etc.
By #610414 27,Mar,23 10:14
Some people. There you go again. You take a small sample of people and make it the norm. Most people don't lie or get people drunk to have sex or start a relationship. If this is what you've experienced, then the hurt is on you and I'm sorry it happened to you. Your bad luck is not normal.

I don't know any of those people dude.
And, actually, I don't care about such people. They're a minority. I don't meet them. Getting someone drunk in order to fuck them is totally unknown to me. I actually don't drink much, especially before having sex, because alcohol reduces one's libido.

Your own eyes, ears. Go outside and look around you.
Look at the people, listen to them, how are they doing?
Look around at the large companys, with now hiring signs up, closed doors like at Arbys again awhile ago at 8pm because of short staff.
The news from the democrat side says there is nothing to see just go about your day,the conservitives are saying buy bullets ,gold, guns and food, which I have enough of all but the gold.Obama, the world champion gun salesman.
The country is suffering right now, people are depressed, mad, unhealthy, broke. Something has got to get better and soon.
By #610414 27,Mar,23 10:27
I do go outside and I do look around. Maybe "large companies" are closing doors in your neck of the woods. In my area business is booming. Arby's is a fast food franchise that, like all other fast food franchises, pays minimum wages, provides little, if any, benefits, assigns less than forty hours of work (usually 32 hrs to prevent overtime pay and other benefits) per week, and the work is gruelling and demeaning.
The country is going through shaky economic times, but, assuming that people are depressed, mad, unhealthy, broke, more than during normal economic times is a fallacie

Remember you are in florida,a state that is far better off right now than most.Of course you don't see the issues.
By #610414 27,Mar,23 12:14
You think Florida is a different country? We look at your area of the world as being poor, over-religious, sexually anal, and poorly educated. The Carolinas, Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana, Kentucky, the Virginias, and Texas as being an aberration to the rest of the country. And, remember, there are TWO Floridas. South of Orlando is one area that is sophisticated, well educated, moderately well off, and progressive. North of Orlando, including Central Florida is the other area. This area is know for people to consider working in fast food establishments as a profession, leaving school by the tenth grade, girls getting pregnant by the age of 12 and marrying by the age of 14 without the benefit of a preacher or justice of the peace. Men drive around in 12 yr or older pickups with rifle racks on the rear window and a picture of a Confederate flag. Marlboros are the norm. This is also what we see and know about your neck of the woods and, personal experience living in Valdosta, Georgia.
Don't tell me what the truth is. You go out of your little part of the country and see for yourself and not through the eyes of Fox News

Even I have heard good things about Gretchen Whitmer.

You've got to admit that Republicans are good at messaging,
calling anti-union laws 'right-to-work' laws.
That's how they get people to vote for them.
When people need to work like slaves, they don't have time
to inform themselves about who is actually on their side.
By #610414 25,Mar,23 13:00
Even worse, the average worker in the US has no clue what 'right-to-work' in this context, means.
By phart [Ignore] 25,Mar,23 13:45 other posts
A good way of explaining what it means is shown by the example laid out for us a few months ago when the sorry over paid, lazy sumbitches with the rail road threatened to strike and cripple the entire country until their whiney ,sissy little ass's got what they demanded.
Unions hold company's, and the people hostage to get what they want, charge excessive union dues and do nothing to help the people that don't work for a union. Only cost the citizens more.

Right to work is,you are not promised a job.You go out and get 1 and give it your best and get paid.If you DON"T your sorry ass gets fired. If you are a lazy sumbitch and you like forking over alot of your pay to a union ,you may have that option. To many union jobs have people laying around doing nothing for a 1/3 or more of their shift getting paid big bucks.
Prime example was when a friend worked temp at postal warehouse. Truck was empty, and some packing peanuts had got spilled on the floor. He went to get a broom to clean up the mess. His coworker said, "No,not your job,we have someone for that, the postal service will be fined and he will get 2 hours pay bonus if you do his job".
What the fuck good is that kind of system? ALLOWING people to lay around and do NOTHING?? Not a fucking thing wrong with multitasking. the checks the same.

Unions have outlived their purpose, far more so than a roman chariot.
We have Osha to protect the workers safety. We have Workers comp to cover cost of accidents that do happen.
By #610414 25,Mar,23 16:29
Wrong. Unions have been known to exaggerate but, most are honest brokers for the workers. Are you going to tell me that if all unions disappear, management will stand up for you in worker disputes? Give you regular raises and never fire you no matter what? If you believe that, go work for Fox News.
--------------------------------------- added after 111 seconds

Did you know that in a right-to-work state you can't work in another place doing the same job for a year after your termination?
By phart [Ignore] 25,Mar,23 22:24 other posts
No,never heard of it, matter of fact, even if it is law,I know for a fact it was blatantly broken because people would leave my employer and go right across town and work for the other 1.

What the unions have done is eliminate pride in work ,quality products and productivity .And have driven 1000's of jobs right over the water. How do you think china got to be so strong in such short of a time? JOBS MONEY WORK.
Union workers do not have to give a damn, just push a button 20 times a minute ,or tighten that bolt with a automatic torque wrench and etc.
Laziness amplified and glorified.
A friend of mine that finally broke free of drugs after 25 years got a job 9 months ago operating heavy grading equipment, as in off road dump trucks, track hoes and such , 28 dollars a hour. and sometimes he is offered up to 30 hours OVERTIME which is even more per hour.
And most of his coworkers, won't stay for overtime "try" to hide in a 40 ton dump truck behind a pile of dirt and sleep for a hour.
My friend shows up a hour before work, greases the machine, does his safety check. The supervisors have already given him a 2 dollar a hour raise and he is up to be moved to supervisor. His boss told him, "you are the best man we have on the job, corporate has even noticed, Why"? My friend simply said, "I am GRATEFUL for this job and the wages it provides for my family and myself.".

How many people do you know, are honestly GRATEFUL for their jobs? Very few I bet, They think they deserve alot for very little and complain constantly I bet.
Read this example of pathetic workers. oh everyone is so mad at the store, but it is not the stores fault people don't know what work is?
I copied and pasted the reason below the link if you don't want to read the whole page.

The sign read as follows: “I apologize for us closing AGAIN. My 2 new cashiers quit because I said their boyfriends couldn’t stand here for their entire shift. Don’t hire Gen Z’s. They don’t know what work actually means. NOW HIRING! *Baby Boomers ONLY, thanks!”
I have always heard things about Japans system and just what little I have read this evening, good system over there.

1 clip,
Only an exceptionally intelligent and well-motivated labor force is likely to produce such an impressive record of innovation.
NOW that is what America needs, not over paid lazy union workers, but WELL MOTIVATED INTELLIGENT PEOPLE WORKING.
Not high school drop outs wanting 20 bucks a hour to flip a burger."
"Exhibit III illustrated that Japanese companies pay low wages to new employees and high wages to experienced workers."
What a CONCEPT? Pay for expericance, not lazyness.

Shock!'
"Big differences in the pay that workers with the same experience and education receive over their lifetime motivate workers. "
By #610414 26,Mar,23 19:58
1)
I gave you the wrong impression and I was wrong. There's no law to prevent you from changing employers. However, in many jobs you have to sign an "exclusivity" agreement. The employer can sue you if you do. However, read this:
"Workers in states with right to work laws have a consistently lower quality of life than in other states—lower wages, higher poverty and infant mortality rates, less access to the health care they need and poorer education for their children."

2)
Why would belonging to a union eliminate pride? Electricians take pride in their wiring. Plumbers do too. Airline pilots are sticklers for perfect flying skills. Nurses are proud and give their lives to take care of their patients. Teachers dedicate long, unpaid, hours to help their students. And like them, there are thousands of examples where union workers take pride in their work.
As far as driving 1000's of jobs overseas, that was due to corporate greed. Wages are the biggest expense a business has and corporations don't care if they close a plant in the US and open it in another country. They don't care if employees don't have a living wage. Don't blame it on the unions.
As far as quality of work, are you seriously going to tell me Chink products are superior? When the big flight of corporations to countries with lower labor costs, Japanese products were the laughing stock of the world. And, tell me, why are foreign car manufacturers opening and operating plants in the US? Nostalgia?

3)
Tightening lug nuts or pushing a button is part of an "assembly line". You know what that is, right? It was invented by Henry Ford. That great humanitarian when it came to employees and a Nazi sympathizer. This is not lazyness. It's the job. If the job calls for pushing a button, do you advocate that worker should not aspire to make as much money as he can get? Remember, wages in a union shop are BY CONTRACT. Management signs of too.

4)
I'm happy for your friend. It took him a long time to kick the habit (very responsible of him) but, better late than never. My question is: what does this sob story have to do with unions? What does it have to do with what an employer is willing to put up with? What does an overachiever prove anyway? If he's being compensated/rewarded, that's good but it's not a reflection of the other employees. Surely you don't think people go to work because it makes them reach a state of ecstasy? BTW, every workplace has shirkers. If it's known they should be fired. No union will protect that type of employee.

6)
People who are greatful for their jobs? Fighter pilots, Leonel Messi, the King of England, others. I was always grateful for the working opportunities I had. Was I always happy? No, there's always something that can make work unpleasant. But, if you want to be a doctor or lawyer or fireman or garbage collector and achieve that goal, generally, you are grateful.

7)
Whatever this store owner/manager's experience with genz employees, it has nothing to do with unions, but, work at a Dollar Store is hardly the type of job you want to protect much. The pay is minimum, there are no benefits, and generally treated like a peon.

Japanese work culture is very different from ours. Still, it doesn't mean it will work in other countries. Except for Japan and the remnants of the Bushido code, I know of no other country that is like them. Not even China.

9) You have a skewed view of the American worker. This is copy/paste
"The U.S. is the hub of all innovative inventions. Most new technology was invented in America -- from personal computers, lasers, mobile phones, video games, photocopiers, and even the internet."
The great majority of American workers are competent and responsible.

10)
Pay differences create movement of employees. This is good. It makes employers realize what are acceptable wages.
By phart [Ignore] 26,Mar,23 23:43 other posts
My freind has no need for a union, people that do jobs worth a good salary get 1,skilled labor earns more than unskilled. Only logical.Knowing the affects of a 2% grade when setting up a 100 ton crane can spell life or death. Flipping burgers or setting stuff on the shelf at dollar tree are jobs that take no thinking, not more than a 8th grade education to read labels and temp gauges.
By #610414 27,Mar,23 10:11
Really? Then why are teachers in California on strike? Why do skilled nurses paid just above minimum wage?
"people that do jobs worth a good salary get 1"
But, that "good salary" is defined by the employer. It's not usually what that employee thinks he's worth nor his true worth.
People have to be grateful for their jobs and union workers are lazy?
It's like hearing the CEO of Exploitation Inc., but it is coming from someone
who hasn't benefited from that exploitative system at all.
Why is it always working people's fault?

I'm happy your friend is doing well. However, first he destroyed his life and at some point he has decided to get his life in order and is now motivated to do his job well.
But now he's shitting on people who are not as motivated? He has thrown 25 years of his life away. First he should take a hard look at himself, because he has not contributed to society for 25 years.

This socialist will tell you that people have the responsibility to contribute to society and develop themselves continuously. That does not mean being a good serf for the lords. With 'developing', I'm talking about improving knowledge and skills, to better serve society, before your right-wing mind thinks 'money'.

Flipping burgers for McDonald's doesn't serve society at all. It just creates more obesity, diabetes, pollution and a few even more wealthy people who keep this crony capitalism going. At least if McDonald's would pay a good wage to burger-flippers, they provide an income to otherwise useless people, so the state doesn't have to keep them alive with tax-money. In my ideal socialist system, I would help them to develop to serve society better or if they are incapable of it, at least find them some job providing healthy food. It's possible to provide tasty healthy food for that price, if your prime goal isn't to make a few wealthy people even wealthier.

Employers and politicians have 1000x the responsibility to contribute to society, because they have the power to actually do that, but they are also only thinking about money, in relation to developing themselves continuously.

Second, your friend should talk to his slacking colleagues and find out why they lost their motivation. As an experience expert, he should have insight what people need to motivate them. He could be a great supervisor, but if he has the attitude that you are describing, he will be horrible.
